Trois-Rivieres, QC – Seeyou Men has beaten everyone in the field the past two starts and the former Quebec-Bred Series two-time harness racing champion will try to make it three straight scores on Friday at the Hippodrome 3R.
Seeyou Men starts from the rail Friday in the third and final preliminary round of the Quebec-Bred Series for older trotters.
It's the eighth race co-feature on Friday and there are nine starters in the race. While Seeyou Men is a shoo-in to make the $30,000 final on Sunday, July 14, others in the field will not only be vying to beat Seeyou Men, but also to earn much needed points to make next weeks final.
Trained by Daniel Martin for breeder Chantal Gravel of St-Cyrille-De-Wendover, who co-owns the seven-year-old gelded son of Muscle Mass with Catheline Pelletier of Mirabel, Seeyou Men was off to a rough start in 2019 until this series at the Hippodrome 3R.
He had but one win in 16 starts this year and with the return to H3R, has scored two very impressive victories. Both were parked out the entire mile scores. Seeyou men also has six second place finishes this year to go with his three wins, so he has been usually in contention in most of his races.
"Of course, Mohawk is a stronger track that 3R," trainer Daniel Martin said. "But he likes the half mile track. In Toronto he was not lucky with post positions but he still got many second-place finishes.
"The opposition is strong at 3R," Martin added, "But with a week break in racing will most certainly help him. We will see the results tonight."
On Friday, Seeyou Men will also face his toughest rival in the series, and it's his younger full brother Wildwild Men.
Due to the fact that both horses are still owned by Pelletier and Gravel, they will race coupled as an entry on Friday, but Wildwild Men, who is trained and driven by Guy Gagnon, will start from post seven. Both horses are sired by Muscle Mass from the Angus Hall mare, Seeyouinthecircle.
Wildwild Men, who still owns the track record at H3R at age 2, is now six years old and also has three wins this season. He won an opening round of the Quebec-Bred Series, the same weekend his older brother won his division. Last week he was a game second place finisher to Seeyou Men.
Also, in contention in the race will be former Quebec-Bred champions Maximuscle (post 4), Holiday Party (post 3), Capteur De Reve (post five) along with Kinnder Dangerous (post 8) and Caroluzzo (post 6).
The older mare trotters are featured in the sixth race where Kascara Rose renews her rivalry with Lucky Promesses.
Kascara Rosa, now age 9 and sired by Kadabra, goes from post four for trainer Yves Tessier and owner/breeder Jean Dessureaudt of Candiac.
In her last start, Kascara Rosa was a game third in the series and the prior week, she beat her younger rivals with a 2:00.1 triumph, her fourth win this year. She will be driven by Stephane Brosseau.
Lucky Promesses starts from the rail for driver Francis Picard. The six-year-old mare by Lucky Fool is trained by Francis Richard for owners Bruno Morin of St-Lazare-De-Bellechasse and Danny Genois of Quebec and has just one win this year.
But the mare does have two second place finishes in the series. Last start she nearly wired the field and the prior week came first-over and held game until the wire.
Other contenders include Eau Naturelle (post 5), who won an opening round division, former Quebec Series champion, Y S Suzanne (post 6) and Precieuse CC (post 3).
The first two-year-old race of the season takes place in the third race where five "babies" make their first-ever pari-mutuel starts.
The early favorite is Eclat De Rire (Burst Out Laughing in English) from post four for trainer Maxime Velaye. This colt was bred and is owned by Guy Corbeil of Mirabel. It is a half brother to Lune Bleu (Blue Moon in English), who compete Sunday at H3R in Quebec-Bred Series.
The colt is sired by Leader Bayama from the No Pan Intended mare, Eloge, and was a winner last week at H3R in a qualifying race, pacing the last quarter mile in :29.3 in a 2:05.2 triumph.
Other sires represented in the race are Windfall Blue Chip, Shanghai Phil, and Sunshine Beach.
