The 2014 winter carnival officially starts tomorrow (Saturday) night at the Albion Park Harness Racing Club.
And it will start with a bang!
The open class stars take centre stage with the Gr.2 $60,000 Garrards Sunshine Sprint the feature event on the nine race program.
Champion pacer Im Themightyquinn, has travelled all the way from Perth and looms as the horse to beat but he will face very stiff opposition from the Shane Tritton duo of Mach Beauty and Suave Stuey Lombo while leading local Avonnova will be looking to represent his home state proudly.
Im Themightyquinn set the carnival alight earlier this week with a scorching trial on Tuesday when he paced in 1;51.9 and winning by an ever expanding margin, the track record is 1;51.8.
And that track record belongs to Suave Stuey Lombo who set the mark last year winning this same race and defeating his stablemate Mach Beauty in a thrilling contest.
Both horses arrive in sparkling form with Suave Stuey Lombo beating Mach Beauty at Menangle at their most recent start in unbelievable time of 1;49.6.
The Sunshine Sprint is race 6 on the card, scheduled to start at 7.40pm.
Gambling giant TattsBet again offer a raft of jackpots throughout the night including a $20,000 Quadrella carryover which will be staged on races 2, 3, 4 & 5.
And Trot Tips can’t wait for the carnival to begin.
“This carnival shapes as an absolute cracker with so much to look forward to including this outstanding race tomorrow night for the free-for-all stars. Having a horse like Quinny in town is a massive coup and he will showcase his brilliance to his adoring fans yet again but I’m tipping against him, I like Avonnova.” Trot Tips Mick Polster said.
Many believe this card of racing makes strong appeal to punters with several favourites tipped to win from their good draws.
“It does look a good betting program and I’m keen to get amongst it, I think we play aggressively for the quaddie. The opening leg has four main winning chances in Goldplay, Freedom Is, Floyd Mayweather and Fullness Of Time.
“In the next two legs we can narrow it right down because winning hopes look thin away from the obvious. In the second leg, I’m only playing Fearless Leader and Screaman Seaman while in the third leg the two winning hopes are Aspiring Artist and Nike Franco.
“The last leg is fairly wide being a typical claiming race but the runners to include are Wilusi Blues, My Elusive Dream, My Man Dan, Franco Bulgari, Praze An Beeble, Therecomesatime and Im Young Tommy all capable of winning. I will combine all these runners for varying amounts.”
TattsBet will also offer a $5000 First 4 carryover on race one plus $25000 First 4 carryovers on races 6 and 8.
And a fixed odds Drivers Challenge market will also be available.
