CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Cartoon Daddy fought off all comers in the final strides to hit the winner’s circle in the Thursday evening featured event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
David Dowling supplied the winning steer, stopping the clock in 1:59.2 for owners William Andrew of Calgary, Alta., and Brian Andrew of Milton Station, P.E.I.
The Thursday evening program saw the first snowfall of the season with blustery conditions putting the track at a two-second variant for the card. The $2,200 feature pace saw Weekend Atnannies (Driven by Mike McGuigan) set the tempo with opening splits of 27.3 and 57.4 before succumbing to the first over advance of Cartoon Daddy at the three-quarters of 1:28.4.
Cartoon Daddy, who moved into the stable of Danny MacDonald for the first time, continued to advance the final quarter and prevailed over his rivals by a one-length score. Jeb (Jason Hughes) rallied for second with Likely To Win (Adam Merner) finishing third.
Trainer Cindy MacDonald returned home to the Whim Road with a pair of winners from her Montague stable after the weekday card. Sailor Blue was a 2:04.1 victor in a $1,500 trot class with Corey MacPherson at the lines while MacDonald and MacPherson clicked in the $1,950 Open trot with a 2:01.4 open length score with Dusty Lane Jacob.
