Taking advantage of a perfect pocket trip, Kelly Case took the first leg of the 2008 Mildred Williams International Driving Series Final with a victory behind Firm Woody ($4.80) on Wednesday (November 5) afternoon at Harrah's Chester Casino and Racetrack.

Anne-Marie Turenne dictated the pace aboard Imperious (Glowing Tribute), with Firm Woody (Firm Belief) settling in the pocket just after reaching the quarter in :28. Turenne continued unopposed on the lead through intermediate splits of :58 and 1:27, never reached by the first-over challenge of Carole Dumont and Mini Me.

With Mini Me fading in the far turn, Case vacated the pocket with Firm Woody, drawing clear in the final strides to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:55.3. Imperious held second from Mr Genius (Gro Formia), with Mach's Tenor N (Elisabeth Jansen) closing from the back of the pack to finish fourth.

Firm Woody is owned and trained by Shaun Vallee. The Mildred WIlliams International Driving Series Final continues

omorrow, with two races each at Freehold Raceway and Dover Downs.
