The harness racing association of Ceredigion, Ceredrotian, has welcomed the announcement by S4C which confirms the future of the harness racing programme, Rasus.
Gwenan Thomas, secretary and director of Ceredrotian, said: "Everyone across all industries, is well aware that cuts must be made currently so to hear that the Rasus programme is to continue in 2012 is very positive news. Over the years, the programme has helped to promote the sport across Wales and pull it into the mainstream."
Alan Brown, director of Ceredrotian, said: "Over the coming months we will release exciting information about the county’s 2012 races and will be encouraging new visitors and enthusiasts to join us in enjoying the excitement of the races. If everyone can not be there physically, at least now they will be able to watch the events on television or on the web. "
Harness racing was firmly established in Wales in the late 19th century, and the county of Ceredigion has a strong tradition of holding races, with an increasing number becoming involved in the sport - from drivers to owners and trainers and sponsors - from the north to the south of the county the races are held throughout the summer.
