Blitzthemcalder - Has drawn the outside of the front line in the NZ Derby

Outstanding three year old colt Blitzthemcalder returned to the winners list against his older rivals at Cranbourne on Tuesday March 5, when successful in the Decron Horse Care Trotters Mobile for T0 & T1 class over 2080 metres.

Trained at Lara by Ross Payne and driven by Chris Alford, Blitzthemcalder a prohibitive $1.10 having his second outing since August was a prohibitive $1.10 favourite and far from impressive after being taken back off the gate from position four to settle at the tail of the field with Samaras Dream (gate three) leading.

Making a swift move mid-race, the speedy Mister Gunsen assumed control with trainer/driver Paul Grech allowing him to bowl along.

Eased three wide in the final circuit, Blitzthemcalder was inclined to hang and race greenly and at one stage appeared to be struggling.

Nursed around the home turn, Alford gave the son of Metropolitan and Like A Calder full rein on straightening, taking an eternity to catch Mister Gunsen in the shadows of the post to score by 2.8 metres with Cloher Road third. The mile rate 2-03.

Alford was to finish the night with a quartet of winners, the others being Mister Clooney, Fake Lace and Captain Scott for Jayne Davies and Noel Alexander.

Honest 5-Y-0 Village Jasper/Saxony Style mare Stylish Jasper was a tough victor of the ADE Turf Equipment Pace for C2 & C3 class over 2080 metres.

Trained on the track by Vivian Tomren, Stylish Jasper taking a concession for Josh Duggan settled four back in the running line from gate three on the second row before commencing a forward move three wide uncovered racing for the bell.

Sustaining a long run, Stylish Jasper proved too strong at the finish for the heavily supported pacemaker We Never Say Die first up since August, scoring by a head in a rate of 2-02. Gumdrops was a further 5 metres away in third place after following the winner home.
