Trois-Rivieres, QC – Scoring a training double at the Hippodrome 3R on Sunday afternoon, Charles Gaudreault took command of the trainer standings for the 2020 season.
Gaudreault’s first victory from his stable took place in the second race two-year-old pace and it was all Moonbeam Godro, who made his pari-mutuel debut a winning one for driver Pascal Berube.
Leaving from post four, Berube sent the colt by So Surreal to the front, taking command from Erins Somewhere (Marc Belander) by the opening quarter mile and never looked back.
Race favorite Realxample (Richard Veilleux) tried coming first-over in the backstretch but to no avail as Moonbeam Gordro won by a half-length in 2:03. Realxample was second with Erins Somewhere third.
Moombeam Godro is owned and trained by Charles Gaudreault. He paid $6.70 to win.
Gaudreault struck gold again in the third race feature, the Mares Preferred-Handicap Pace.
Sophies Cam (Stephane Brosseau) was first on the lead with Hammering Haley (Francis Picard) grabbing the two-hole trip to the opening quarter mile in :27.4.
Last week’s return winner, T C Easy and driver Steeven Genois then swung to the outside and cleared to the lead before the half mile in :57.1.
That was when Hammering Haley came back out to challenge for the lead with Sieras Rose (Pierre Luc Roy) second over. But before the three-quarters in 1:26.4, Hammering Haley was able to drop into the two-hole behind Y C Easy, leaving Sieras Rose parked out first-over.
It was a four-horse battle down the stretch but Sieras Rose was up to the task for Roy, collaring the race leaders and going on to win by one-quarter of a length in 1:58. Hammering Haley was second with Y C Easy third.
It was the second win in five starts this year for Sieras Rose. The eight-year-old mare by No Pan Intended is owned by Steve Perreault of Mont-Joli and paid $5.40 to win.
With his two training wins, Charles Gaudreault is now the leading trainer at H3R with seven wins. Serge Nadeau also had two training wins and moved into a tie for second place in the trainer standings with five wins along with Michel Allard and Maxime Velaye.
Track Notes: Both Pierre Luc Roy and Pascal Berube scored driving doubles and Berube and now leads the driver standings at H3R with 17 wins. Live harness racing resumes at the Hippodrome 3R next Friday, July 30 with first race post time at 4:00 pm. For more information, visit www.hippodrome3r.ca.
