Chilli Palmer officially set the track alight on Victoria Derby night, scorching the ground in the harness racing Garrards 4YO Bonanza.
With Ginger Bliss and Guaranteed battling it out at the head of affairs in a 58.6sec first half after the 7.2sec lead time.
From there the foot was put firmly to the floor with Guaranteed applying the acid test with a half mile to go as they roared through the third quarter in 26.6sec and the last quarter in 26.8secs.
It was the son of Elsu, Chilli Palmer, with the one by one sit who peeled off the two leaders backs and charged through the line to go within 0.4sec of the track record.
Coming off the back of a preparation that included a breathtaking win in the McInerney Classic in Perth, he has returned on the way to what could become a vintage Chariots Of Fire to be run on Inter Dominion day at Menangle.
The race is likely to included runner up Guaranteed as well as Franco Nelson who was running on in the Hunter Cup.
