The Kent Rattray trained Colby Sanz took the latest step in his bid for success in next week’s Tasracing Dandy Patch Final with an awesome victory in the Series Prelude in Hobart on Friday night.
Stable driver John Walters, confident he was driving the best horse in the race, made his move from third last to find the breeze outside Kosimo at the mile marker.
“John could see the horse in the death was hanging back a little so he went forward and controlled the tempo,” said Kent.
“John sensed the front-runner Kosimo was mixing his gear at the 600-metre mark and attacked for the lead but couldn’t cross so he eased again and waited until turning for home, while Kosimo was game in defeat John was confident Colby Sanz (pictured) could put his head in front when it counted and he did.”
Speaking on Saturday from his Lietinna property Rattray was delighted with the way his team pulled up from their Hobart trip.
“We had three runners in the Prelude, Colby Sanz and Rockandahardplace have cleaned out their bins while Jimi Sanz usually takes a day or so to fully recover, they are all out running around in the paddock, healthy and happy so that’s the main priority,” Kent said.
“While Colby Sanz took the honours in the Prelude I’m not writing off the prospects of Jimi Sanz and Rockandahardplace in the final, I don’t think there is much between them and the draw will be all important come the final.”
Top filly Blame It On Me continued her winning run, taking out the Tasracing Evicus Preludewith a powerful finishing burst to boosting her record to five wins from six outings.
The Doug Nettlefold trained Big Jim – Shake Me Up star moved into the three-wide train at the bell at the expense of Vonns Angel and when switched on by Nat Emery at the top of the stretch put her rivals to the sword with a powerful finishing burst.
