Councillor Landers guest speaker at Awards

Councillor Donald R. Landers will join Don Marean as a guest speaker at the 50th anniversary awards-program of the New England Harness Writers Association. The Marlborough, Mass. resident will deliver the 'welcome to Marlborough' address at the October 23. 2011 harness racing awards-dinner of the USHWA chapter of New England scribes.

Landers is no stranger to being around horses and cleaning out stalls. He worked five summers for the late Dr. Francis McGee's vetinary clinic and farm located on Marlborough's famed Boston Post Road. More than 50 contributors to the sport will be cited at the writers 33rd such event, according to John Ginnetti Jr., president.

"Hopefully this will be an affair to be long remembered and we're hoping for a full house at Marlborough's Courtyard-Marriott, 75 Felton St. A special room rate of $89 is available by calling the hotel at 508-480-0015.

John Hogan still knows where the winners circle is. Tuesday he breezed into town and drove and drove Hi Speed Delivery to victory(1:55.1) in Plainridge's third race.

John Kakaley, Robert Dinning, Jim Hardy and Mike Eaton are battling it out for top driving honors at Plainridge. Linda Kakeley, Shawn Answeeney, Jennifer Allen,Don Guidette Jr., and Louis Ferriero are just a hoof beat apard among the Plainridge trainers.
