The usual two meetings were held in Victoria on Wednesday April 1, with Cranbourne holding the day fixture, while Ararat raced at night.

Stable double

It was a Macedon Ranges quinella to the finish of the Seelite Windows & Doors Trotters Mobile for T0 & T1 class over 2080 metres, with the in-form Miles stable representative Maori Mischief taking the major prize over the Gisborne hope Lockheed.

Bred and raced by Wyndown Stud (South Australia), Maori Mischief a 4-Y-0 daughter of Dream Vacation and Maori Acacia trained at Monegeetta by Lisa Miles and driven by husband David, was restrained at the start from inside the second row to settle midfield in the running line.

Sent forward three wide in the final circuit, Maori Mischief overpowered the leaders Design Rule and Noble An Free on turning and defied a late challenge from Lockheed from last at the bell to score by 1.4 metres on the wire, with Redline Fever third in a mile rate of 2-05.

The Miles' themselves snared the quinella in the Garry Rogers Supercars 3-Y-0 Pace over 2080 metres with The Prestige (Lisa Miles) at Supertab odds of $18.10, defeating the more fancied stablemate Arlington Road ($2.80) driven by David in a rate of 2-02.1, making it a big day for South Australia as Stuart Mark is one of the listed owners.

Trapped wide from gate six, Lisa pressed forward with The Prestige to assume control entering the back straight on the first occasion and rated to perfection, had too much in reserve at the finish for Arlington Road which raced in the open, with Rustler Boy (one/one) third.

Speedster scores again

Melton's Lance Justice was victorious with the speedy Washington Vc/Eastwood Elle 4-Y-0 gelding Bullee Bullee in the Decron Horse Care Pace for C5 to C7 class over 2080 metres at Cranbourne on Wednesday.

Showing blistering pace from outside the front row, Bullee Bullee had little difficulty in leading, before running his rivals ragged to just last by a nose from Pocket Legend along the sprint lane after trailing in a rate of 1-59.7, with Beloka Diamond third.

Consistent mare wins again

Ever reliable 4-Y-0 Muscles Yankee/Tammy Rama mare Star Spangled Rama has returned to racing in fine fettle and made it two from two this time in, when successful in the Trios Tabaret Trotters Mobile for T0 & T1 class over 2080 metres at Cranbourne.

Trained at nearby Drouin by Debbie Quinlan and driven by Jodi Quinlan, Star Spangled Rama settled three back along the markers from gate five, before rattling home along the sprint lane to defeat a most unlucky Onlyonewoman which vacated the spot behind the leader Tyranny Of Four on the home turn to be one/one before easing wide on straightening, with Wrath Of Rosie battling on gamely for third after facing the breeze.

The long odds-on favourite Conaroyal resuming, galloped wildly in the back straight on the first occasion to be tailed off.

Victory Number Four

Melton trainer Joe Buttigieg has been having plenty of fun with his 5-Y-0 Totally Ruthless/Eyes Of Jayde gelding Eatem Alive who chalked up his 4th victory by taking the Rapidvite Pace for C1 class over 1609 metres at Cranbourne in 1-58.7.

Taking a lift for Chris Lang (Jnr), Eatem Alive began at 100 miles an hour from outside the front row to cross Mega Choice shortly after the start and was never headed in accounting for Mega Choice along the sprint lane to no avail, with Earls A Flame third after racing in the open from the bell.

Maiden Success

Astute Lockwood South (Bendigo) trainer Tony Dillon's Pacific Fella/Dalmont Rita filly Shez A Looka broke her maiden status at start number four, when successful in The Rosehill 3-Y-0 Pace over 1790 metres at Ararat.

Driven by Daryl Douglas, Shez A Looka began very quickly from gate two to lead throughout in defeating the favourite Keayang Princess which raced outside for for the last 1000 metres and Pacific Rose which followed the winner in a mile rate of 2-01.3.

Pretty Fit

Four year old Sports Town/Lombo Umatilla gelding Athleticism also registered his first victory in 12 outings, when victorious in the Decron Horse Care Pace for C0 class over 2195 metres.

Part-owned and trained by former HRV Board member Geoff Senior who now resides at Warrnambool by the sea, Athleticism bred by son Robert led throughout from the pole with Terang's Matty Craven in the sulky to defy all challengers in accounting for Watertech which trailed, with Samies Boy third after following the pair.

The mile rate 2-01.8.

Breaking the Ice at start Number Ten

Partywiththebigdog/Sodie Sal colt Pjaysparty making his first appearance for the strong Emma Stewart (Smythes Creek - Ballarat) stable, scored an all of the way victory in the Hygain 3-Y-0 Pace over 1790 metres.

Not flash away from the pole, Pjaysparty was driven with plenty of vigour by Daryl Douglas to retain the front running and despite having to be urged along at times, held a handy lead on turning. Although getting weary in the shadows of the post, Pjaysparty held on to score from the fast finishing Astral Flight in a 2-00.9 mile rate, with Captain Courage third from three back along the markers.

It was Pjaysparty's first victory in 10 attempts.

Strong at the finish

Armstrong trainer Brooke Hanson captured the Night Racing Ararat Vicbred Pace for C1 class over 2195 metres at her home track with Powerful Panther, a 5-Y-0 gelded son of Pacific Fella and Sierra Sands.

Taking a concession for Charlton's Ellen Tormey, Powerful Panther began with plenty of zest from gate four to lead and rated a treat, had too much on his rivals to run out an easy winner in advance of Nardoo Sam which trailed and Archi Boy in a mile rate of 2-02.4.
