Cross Of Lorraine mined another Ontario Sires Stakes record on Saturday night during Georgian Downs' harness racing $1 million Gold Rush celebrations. The three-year-old trotting filly was simply outstanding as she led the field of nine Gold Finalists through fractions of :27, :56.2 and 1:24.4 before pulling away in the stretch to a three length victory in 1:54.2.

Elimination winner Ipromisenottotell finished second, with Kenu Dance another length back in third.

The impressive mile lowered the track, Ontario Sires Stakes and Canadian record the Angus Hall miss set in last week's elimination by one full second.

Paul Mackenzie engineered the victory from Post 5 for Thomas Kyron of Toronto, ON, Hope Johnson of London, ON and Carl Jamieson of Princeton, ON, whose speculation about the filly's chances in the $130,000 Gold Final proved prophetic. Four days before Cross Of Lorraine rolled in behind the gate, the trainer predicted that she would be an effortless winner if everything went according to plan.

Through seven sophomore starts Cross Of Lorraine has shown steady improvement and now boasts a record of five wins and earnings of $106,600. Jamieson and his partners purchased the filly from the 2008 Canadian Open Yearling Sale for $50,000 and started her just three times as a two-year-old.

Three-year-old pacing filly Tiz To Dream, a bargain basement $9,000 purchase from the 2008 Forest City Yearling Sale, delivered another dominant performance at Georgian Downs on Saturday to claim her first Gold Final title of the season.

Tiz To Dream and driver Doug McNair took command of the race just after the :26.2 opening quarter and then cruised to a :55.2 half and a 1:24.1 three-quarters. The pair romped home two and a half lengths ahead of Landfairslastchance and Precious Cammill in a 1:52.3 clocking.

Guelph, ON resident Gregg McNair trains the talented daughter of Grinfromeartoear for his partner Paul Kidd, who also calls Guelph home. Through seven starts this season the filly has accumulated four wins, one second and $147,500. Also a Gold Final winner at two, Tiz To Dream banked $313,417 in her freshman campaign.

While the fan favourites delivered in the two filly Gold Finals, things were not so straight forward in the colt and gelding events.

Trotting gelding Dontgetinhisway circled up from the back of the pack and laid down a snappy :27.4 last quarter to claim his first Gold Final crown, halting the teletimer at 1:54.4. Dueling elimination winners Windsun Galaxie, owned by Windsun Farm Inc. of Uxbridge, ON, and Text Me had to settle for second and third.

Dontgetinhisway and driver Rick Zeron eased away from Post 1 and were well back of the leaders when Thro Time reached the quarter in :27.2. The pair shifted to the outside heading for the half - rung up in :57.2 by Windsun Galaxie - and looked like they might be in a pickle when elimination winner Arriba Amigo seemed to run out of gas in front of them heading for the 1:26.2 three-quarters. However, they were able to shake free, and while Windsun Galaxie and favourite Text Me battled through the final turn Zeron shifted Dontgetinhisway into high gear and the Striking Sahbra gelding sprinted home to the one length victory.

Tony O'Sullivan trains Dontgetinhisway for Rumdum Stable of Toronto, ON. Through eight starts the gelding has amassed a record of two wins, two seconds and two thirds for earnings of $113,730. The first foal from a full sister to $889,394 winner Tom Ridge, Dontgetinhisway sold for $42,000 at the 2008 Harrisburg Yearling Sale and made just one start at two.

Zeron repeated his come from behind strategy in the pacing colt Gold Final, sitting off the pace with Broadies Song and then shifting into high gear through the last quarter to score a two and one-half length win in 1:51.

Elimination winner Big Bay Point did the heavy lifting in the pacing colt final, battling Cajon Thunder to a :26 opening quarter and then carrying on to a :54.2 half and 1:22.3 three-quarters. Zeron and Broadies Point dropped into sixth from Post 4 and sat comfortably until the three-quarters when they circled out three-wide and gunned for home. Twin B Warrior also sprinted home from the back field to earn second-place honours, leaving fan favourite Big Bay Point to settle for third.

Zeron trains Broadies Song for Stephen Scarff of Halifax, NS and Turnkey Stables of Hamilton, ON. The Camluck son is out of Scarff's $299,293 winning mare Hawaiian Dancer and has accumulated three wins, three seconds and two thirds in 11 starts since beginning his career this spring, banking $117,450.

With another exceptional Gold Rush event in the books, Ontario's top sophomore competitors will head their separate ways for their next Gold Series starts. Ontario Sires Stakes fans can catch the pacing colts at Mohawk Racetrack on July 31, the pacing fillies at Mohawk on Aug. 1, the trotting colts at Flamboro Downs on Aug. 8 and the trotting fillies at Mohawk on Aug. 7.

Ontario Sires Stakes excitement does not return to Georgian Downs until Friday, Sept. 10, when the Innisfil oval rolls out the red carpet for the second last three-year-old pacing filly Grassroots contest.
