Punters were feeling the affects of the after-shock caused by Cullini's upset win at the Methven Trotting Club's harness racing meeting held at Mt Harding Racecourse today (Sunday).

The daughter of Christian Cullen rocked the tote paying $54 to win the main pace of the day, but it was welcome relief for co-trainers Greg and Nina Hope who have struggled to find form of late with the six year old mare. "She's in a really difficult grade now and basically needs to get a good trip to figure in the finish," said Nina Hope.

"She suffers from foot soreness and it's a battle to keep her right. The wet weather doesn't help, it only softens her feet." Cullini receives constant attention for a number of ailments including tie-up, but it's the mare's feet that have caused the biggest concern for the Hopes of late. "She wears pads on her feet but we removed them because she was racing on the grass, and I certainly think the grass surface offered some relief for her too," Nina said.

A catch drive for Colin De Filippi, the experienced reinsman gave Cullini a nice trip on the outer, the brave mare did the rest outstaying her opposition and going on to win by 3/4 length from Motu Pocket O'Jewels with Amadeus 2 lengths away in third. Cullini has now won seven of 35 starts with earnings of in excess of $60,000. She is likely to be put in foal this breeding season and will continue to race for as long as possible.
