HARRINGTON, Del. – The harness racing stakes season for Delaware sired 3-year-old horses will commence at Harrington Raceway beginning on Monday June 13 when three $20,000 divisions of male pacers will do battle in the first leg of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) .
The DSBF races consist of a pair of $20,000 elimination legs for each division, followed by a $100,000 final and $20,000 consolation (if sufficient starters).
The filly pacers follow on Tuesday June 14 with both sexes of trotters competing Wednesday June 15.
After the two rounds of eliminations, the finals will be contested on Harrington Raceway's annual Governor's Day program during the Delaware State Fair on July 28 (special 7 p.m. post time).
Four different stallions represented the winners of the $100,000 DSBF finals most recently completed at Dover Downs in April this year. Les Givens-trainees swept the pacing events, Use Your Noodle (Artzina) and Next Success (Veeza). Meanwhile Josh Green-trained Seafood Scrappy (Cr Commando) and Carlo Poliseno-conditioned Cicada's Song (Dusty Winner) prevailed in their respective final events for trotters. All of the aforementioned winners are expected to return for the Harrington installment of DSBF action. Use Your Noodle (1:51.1) and Cicada's Song (1:57.3) both authored DSBF stake records in their final wins. Three of the four DSBF finals in 2015 at Harrington produced new stake records for sophomores, courtesy of pacers Remember Me VK (1:51.2), Purrfect Bags (1:51.2) and trotter Callmemza (1:57.4).
Driver Ross Wolfenden has won 21 DSBF finals since its inception in 2002, while Jim Morand has won 18 and Tony Morgan 14.
