SUMMERSIDE, PE – Rallying from the rear of the pack, JK Cowboy reached up to deliver an 11-1 upset Sunday afternoon in the final race of the harness racing season at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as part of driving triple by Dale Spence.
Spence delivered the quarter-length decision with JK Cowboy ($24.10) in 1:58 in the final race of the 2019 racing season in Prince County for owner-trainer Greg MacInnis of Tyne Valley.
Spence also hit the line first with Shiftyn Georgie in 1:59.4 to put the finishing touches on trainer Jaycob Sweet's season as top trainer at Red Shores Summerside for the O'Leary horseman's 14th win at the track to best second place Elton Millar with 12 wins. Confident Fella was the other part of the Spence triple with a 1:58.3 decision for trainer Ralph Sweet of O'Leary.
Driver David Dowling defended his heavy lead for top driver as he had a pair of winner's on the card to give him 51 victories at Red Shores Summerside in 2019. Gilles Barrieau finished second in the driving race with 35 wins.
Nogreatmischief won the $2,600 featured pace stopping the clock in 1:57.1 for trainer, driver and co-owner Walter Cheverie of Nine Mile Creek and co-owner Brian Thompson of Charlottetown. Pictonian Storm (Driven by Myles Heffernan Sr.) was second while Mando Fun (Barrieau) cut out the mile to finish third.
Souverain won the $2,200 Wendell Wallace Memorial pace in 1:57.1 for his fourth straight win for owner-trainer Phil Sizer of Kensington with Barrieau supplying the winning steer.
