In the absence of Jean Pierr Dubois’ royally-bred Belgian filly Tast Bourbon (Donato Hanover-Qualita Bourbon), the Dream Vacation filly Trixi Östervang will take some beating in the Danish Hoppe Kriterium tomorrow night.
Peter Untersteiner’s big, long striding filly took control of her heat early on and from her draw will look hard to peg back if Johan Untersteiner uses similar tactics on Sunday. The filly has won three of her ten starts with a record of 1.15.5, and earnings of 110,428kr.
Tomas Malmqvist’s Tara, is a smaller filly but very nicely gaited and was also impressive in her heat. The winner of four of her eight starts, the daughter of Varenne will be driven again by her usual pilot Kasper Andersen. She has a record of 1.15.0.
There is no more Danish a filly than Tutti Esterel a daughter of Danish-bred sire Esterel Sunset, a former Swedish E3 final winner who has averaged about 5 foals a year since he began his stud career 10 years ago.
Nevertheless six out of ten of his progeny hit the trackand 20percent have earned more than 100,00Dkr. Rising young Danish trainer Jan Dahlgaard’s filly Tutti Esterel is posed to be number five on 99,000kr and might yet be the best of them.
Although she had an awful draw in her heat but produced a withering burst to run second. She is not the worst by any means.
The biggest earner in the field is Morten Juul’s Tut A P a daughter of popular Swedish-based American sire Quite Easy, from the first crop of Andover Hall.
The filly has won four of her ten starts and 207,214kr But finishing third in her heat earned her a second row and she will need all of Birger Jörgensen’s driving skill to overcome that.
Danish trainer Bo Westergård has two fillies in the field and has chosen to drive Treat Me Nice E P a daughter of French champion Offshore Dream, the winner of two Prix d’Amerique. But she is drawn nine and Westergård’s best chance will be heat winner Toffifee D who he has entrusted to veteran Danish horseman Steen Juul.
The Great Challenger filly’s heat win was only her second, and whether she can fight off the challenge of the two on her immediate outside, Trixi Ostervang and Tara, will decide her fate for she will likely get buried on the rail.
Swedish star driver Johnny Takter has once again been hired to drive Michael Lönborg’s Tiramisu. The filly by The Liquidator has only started four times, with a win and a fast finishing third in her heat, and she actually has the fastest record in the race, 1.13.8, a sub-2minute rating.
Andover Hall’s Colonial Trot winning son The Liquidator has three fillies in the race, with his nexst best chance being Touch of Babe who is trained and driven by Henrik Lönborg and was second in her heat. But she might find these a bit too tough for her. The others in the race will also be add juicy odds.
