After nine races over three days the NZ representative at the Amateur Drivers World Championship has finished a highly commendable fifth. Raced at the Finnish tracks of Riihimaki, Tampere & Helsinki, Jeff Darby racked up a trio each of 2nds and 3rds
The championship was won by the Finnish driver Jäane Räisänen by a one points margin from the Swiss driver Joey Vignoni with a single point back to the Dutch driver Wim Brouwer.
Not only did Jeff Darby have to overcome the challenges of the language and the different race rules and equipment but also the fact that he had never driven a trotter in a race before. A fact that amazed the locals who know nothing but trotters. At the invite of the organizers Jeff arrived several days before the championship and was able to gain valuable pre champs experience race driving. He clearly learnt quickly to post the best result by a New Zealander in an Amateur Championship staged in Europe.
