Facial Expressions was all smiles after overcoming post 10 to win the featured trotting event on Thursday night at Scioto Downs. Harness racing trainer-driver Ammon Hershberger was in the bike behind the 4-year-old daughter of Full Count.

In the first half-mile, Scioto's leading driver Chris Page sent the 3-1 pick Rose Run Molly to the front and she led halfway through the race in a comfortable :59 seconds. Favored Cummingsandgoings with driver Dan Noble tried to apply pressure during the third quarter, but that threat died when Noble's trotter broke stride.

Meanwhile, Hershberger had Facial Expressons on the move from back in the pack. She was fourth with a quarter-mile remaining, and continued to gain ground on Rose Run Molly around the final turn. In the stretch, the two mares battled it out with Facial Expressions sticking her neck in front to win at the wire.

Rose Run Molly was more than six lengths ahead of Jesses Smirk, the third-place finisher.

The winning time was 1:57.4.

Facial Expressions paid $7.00, $4.20, and $3.40.

It was the first win in three 2012 starts for Facial Expressions and she dropped her lifetime mark three seconds in the process. She was bred and is owned by David Wayne Vannata of Mount Vernon, Ohio.
