Fine weather saw an increased attendance at Thursday's (December 29) Warragul harness meeting. Spotted among the crowd were former top Carlton footballer Wayne Johnston and his wife, actress Kate Kendall, who saw the fields in the Herald Sun and decided to head up from Melbourne for the day.

Highlight of the racing card was the Ken Miller Memorial, named in honour of one of the great supporters of local harness racing.

Dicky Beach took out the event for trainers Jayne Davies and Noel Alexander, and driver Chris Alford.

The four-year-old is named after a suburb on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, a regular holiday destination for owner John McLeish, who part-owned 1995 InterDominion Championship winner Golden Reign.

Dicky Beach led throughout and landed some good bets as an 8/1 chance.

Longwarry pacer D B Dazzler scored for its local syndicate of owners in the fourth race.

Scoring its first victory since April, D B Dazzler was well rated by reinsman Greg Sugars and recorded a fast time in winning its twelfth race for trainer Lee Evison.

Gippsland horses One More Smile and Grey Rocket both finished second on Thursday at their first race starts for some time, and could pay to follow.

The next Warragul harness race meeting is on Monday afternoon, January 30.
