Smart filly Double Expresso has kept her unbeaten record intact, following a comfortable win in the APG Race Series two-year-old fillies Heat (1730m) at Gloucester Park last night.
The Sweet Lou filly was stretched by second placegetter Askmeilltellya, finishing just 4.9m adrift in second place.
Reinsman Chris Lewis had to urge Double Expresso to the line as Askmeilltellya made up late headway.
The filly lifted in the last 100m though and saw off any danger there may have been.
The Golden Slipper in July looms as a long term target for Double Expresso.
In the colts and geldings division, Valentines Brook upstaged race favourite and the previously unbeaten Marcotti.
Valentines Brook, a half-brother to smart four-year-old Bechers Brook, had the perfect run in the small field on the back of Marcotti.
When reinsman Mark Reed got off the pegs, the Rock N Roll Heaven gelding got past Marcotti with ease and went on to score a comfortable 4.6m victory.
It starts what looms as an exciting week for Reed, who will team up with his father Mike in three key races at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
The pair will team up with Countess Grace in the Intersport Slater Gartrell Oaks Prelude (2130m), where star fillies Typhoon Tiff and Dracarys are notable absentees.
Star mare Our Angel Of Harlem also makes her return in the Retravision Pace (2130m).
Elsewhere on the program, a field of nine has been assembled for the Vale John Stampalia Free-For-All Pace (1730m).
