Texican N wins in the snow at Dover last week

Texican N beat the snowfall and the clock setting a lifetime record of 1:50.3 to win the $30,000 Preferred/Open Handicap feature on Thursday. It is the fastest time of the early 2014 season in the sport.

Mike Rossi, a one-time leading driver at Dover Downs, has returned from retirement, and is winning races, at longshot prices. On New Year's Day, Rossi won two races, one at 53-1 and the other at 27-1.

The annual Delaware Standardbred Owners Association ( DSOA) Awards-Dinner. Each year, the night is the biggest social event of the year for Delaware men and women horsemen. This year, it will be held at Modern Maturity, on Route 8, in Dover on Friday, Jan. 10. Heather Vitale is MC of the event which honors horsemen and horse of the 2013 season. O'Brien Awards, a black tie event, will honor Canada's top horses, drivers and trainers on Feb.9. In the states, the top winners in the sport will be honored at the prestigious Dan Patch Awards at the annual U.S. Harness Writers Association event this year at Dover Downs on Sunday, Feb. 23. The Horse of the Year, Pacer of the Year,Trotter of the Year, all divisional champion horses and individual standouts of the 2013 season will receive their awards. Two localites, driver Corey Callahan will win the Rising Star Award, while Ms. Wilson is the President's Award winner. Corey Callahan is off to another big start for the 2014 portion of the season. Callahan led the 2013-14 standings with a meet-leading total to 94 wins. Allan Davis is runner-up with 51. Vic Kirby has moved into third place with 44 wins. Ross Wolfenden is fourth in the standings with 42 wins. Tony Morgan completes the top five with 35 wins.

Wayne Givens holds the top spot in the trainer standings with 28 wins. Dylan Davis is now second with 22 wins. Trish Foulk is third with 20. Les Givens has 18 and Joe Hundertpfund with 17 winners is fifth in the trainer standings.

Tim Tetrick is currently recovering from his second hip operation in December. After Tetrick's biggest win season at Dover Downs in 2007 when he finished the season with 1,189 winning drives, Tetrick, who suffered with degeneration of his hips since his youth, had his right hip replace in mid December and remarkably, was back racing a month later, His brother, Tim Tetrick, who is quickly winning fans at Dover Downs, says Tim is aiming for early February, after the Super Bowl, for his return to the track.
