Brett Brittingham gets Alexachase to the wire at Dover Downs
DOVER, Del.---- A post position change was a help as Alexachase closed quickly for a 1:52.3 triumph in the St. Patrick's Day $20,000 Mares Open Handicap on Monday, March 17 at Dover Downs. Ron Pierce drove five winners.

With Ron Pierce and Jeremes Sweetheart cutting out the fast pace, Alexachase, who picked up lengths but not position change after starting from outside post 8 last week, closed strongly on the final turn and zoomed to a 1:52.2 victory in the distaff feature of the week. Bret Brittingham was at the controls of the fast-finishing six-year-old by Bettor's Delight-Jett Away who won for the third time in seven starts this year. She has won $30,600 this year and $337,103 lifetime for owners Kimberley and trainer Johnny Waite. Paradise Lost (Ross Wolfenden) was second with Jeremes Sweetheart hold on for third,

Another mare responding to a post change was Grandview Hanover, one of three wins for George Dennis, getting up in 1:54 to win the first of two $14,500 Mares Winners-Over paces. Don Reed and trainer George Wagner own the Dragon Again-Gifted Yankee four-year-old now a four-time winner in nine starts this year. Rachelle's Beat (Allan Davis) was runner-up with Romanascape (Vic Kirby) the show horse.

Bay Pond Racing's Winbak Speedy teamed with Allan Davis to overtake Make Magic (Trace Tetrick) in the stretch to win the other division in 1:52.4. Lloyd's Lady (Montrell Teague) came on for third place.

Hall of Famer Ron Pierce led all drivers with five wins. George Dennis recorded three wins including a 53-1 shot, Frank Chick's Caviart Savannah to win a !:55.2 3,4&5-Year-Old Filly and Mare pace.
