CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – After seeing her harness racing win streak broken by the boys last week, Dreamfair Zenfire will try to start a fresh one against the girls Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
With 12-dashes on tap the Capital oval sees action commence at 6 P.M.
The $2,550 featured fillies and mares pace lines up in race 11 of the evening and Dreamfair Zenfire is the top choice from post 4 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris.
The Sunfire Blue Chip four-year-old mare had five straight wins against the Open Pacing Mares then had to face the preferred 2 boys last Saturday in Charlottetown where she finished fourth. Her path to victory on Thursday will involves defeating five top notch pacing mares including fellow Open mare Woodmere Chella (To be driven by Corey MacPherson) from post 5. Temagami Seelster has post 3 in the class with Kenny Arsenault aboard the nine-time winning daughter of Sunshine Beach.
Peter MacPhee with the Post Time Picks sees the return to female racing a major plus in Dreamfair Zenfire's path to the winner's circle. "Dreamfair Zenfire saw her winning streak come to end when she finished fourth to Cowboy Logic. It's looks like she'll be bossing it tonight and if she does clear expect her to be smiling in the winner's circle again."
Also in the field are The Time To Win (Adam Merner), Lean On Who (Gilles Barrieau) and Filly Forty Seven (Jason Hughes).
A pair of trotting mares face their male counterparts in the race 8 Open Trot for a $2,350 pot. Island Oceans Trot Series champion Daisy River (Hughes) has post 2 in the field for trainer William Lanigan with fellow mare Sailor Blue (Ken Murphy) leaving off the rail. The top contenders are co-track record holders Mile Hill Willie (Barrieau) and Freddie (Campbell) from posts 4 and 5, respectively. Post 3 belongs to Glider Man (David Dowling).
