Dubbo Harness Racing Club president Len Edwards couldn’t be happier with the fields for the traditional Boxing Day meeting on Tuesday night.
Each of the six races has a full field and there are plenty of strong runners.
“The Boxing Day meeting is always a popular one and we get a good crowd comes along,” Edwards said.
“There are a couple of memorial races. One for Colleen O’Neill and one for Ron Hoy. They were both well-known people who contributed a lot to the sport.”
Nathan Hoy will be competing in the race named after his late grandfather, with Barkway Arnold looking like a strong contender for the win.
“The Hoys are a family that have been in the sport for a long time and Ron’s children and grandchildren have continued on the tradition,” Edwards said.
“It’s great to see Nathan bring one for the race, it always adds a bit more when a family member is in with a chance of winning.”
It’s a later meeting than normal, with the first race starting at 7.48pm and the final race under way at 10.30pm but Edwards said the weather forecast was predicting a nice temperature for the meeting.
“It’s a nice way to finish what has been a very good year for us. The sport of harness racing is in good shape and 2018 is shaping to be another great year,” he said.
“Dubbo has plenty of racing ahead, including the big Carnival of Cups meeting that runs during the Dubbo Show. It’s exciting.”
