The highlight of the night at the Kilmore harness racing meeting on Saturday April 21 featuring three trotting events was the Mustad Australia $30,000 (Group 2) E B Cochran Trotters Cup for TMO or better class over 2690 metres, with 8-Y-0 Earl/Eilish Mac gelding Earl Of Mot scoring a meritorious victory.

Starting from gate three on the second line, Earl Of Mot settled five back in the moving line, with stablemate Motu Young Jacob being driven with aggression to lead from outside the front row.

With John Caldow driving, Earl Of Mot was urged forward mid-race in an attempt to park outside the leader, but endured a torrid run as Gavin Lang aboard Save A Sixpence was reluctant to give away the death-seat.

Eventually crossing, Earl Of Mot again had to keep running as Save A Sixpence eased three wide racing for the bell to again tackle the leaders.

Crossing to the marker line for the final circuit, Earl Of Mot defied all challengers to defeat Armed Guard from mid-field and Aleppo Sunrise which raced in the open from the bell in a brilliant rate of 2-02.4.

Bendigo’s Graham McDermott captured the 3rd Heat of the Vicbred Super Series for 3-Y-0 Fillies over 2180 metres with Waikare Patricia, a daughter of Last Sunset and Waikare Gold.

With regular reinsman Grant Campbell in the sulky, Waikare Patricia was allowed to balance from gate two, settling mid-field in the moving line.

Set alight racing for the bell, Waikare Patricia crossed the pacemaker Nicky Newky to lead for the final circuit in easily accounting for the roughies Telern Tiger and Shes A Head Turner in a mile rate of 2-04.5.

Team Lang (Chris Snr & Jnr) snared the 4th Heat with quality filly Shes An Image (Last Sunset/Joyces Choice) in a rate of 2-05.2, leading throughout from gate two to score from Pacobamba which raced outside her, with Hold That Grin third.
