SUMMERSIDE, PE – The Earl Watts Stable came to play Sunday afternoon winning three harness racing dashes on the program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Windemere Mcseek started off the top-notch afternoon for trainer Watts in race 3 as David Dowling steered the daughter of Articulator to a 1:58.4 victory in her $1,400 class.
Race 4 was a maiden breaking score for Red Dirt Magic from the Watts camp, also with Dowling in the seat, as the two-year-old daughter of Ameripan Gigolo won in 2:01 in a $1,700 maiden event. Race 5 completed the straight triple for Watts, this time with Jason Hughes in the race bike, with a 1:58 victory for Kick The Dirt Up. It was the second straight victory for the three-year-old son of Sportswriter.
The $2,700 featured pace was claimed by Heart And Soul and driver Gilles Barrieau in 1:55.4 for owner-trainer George Riley of Summerside. Heart And Soul was first to the front before releasing Flash In The Pang (Driven by Ken Murphy) to the lead at the 27.4 opening quarter.
Heart And Soul then retook the lead en route to the half in 57.1 before feeling first-over pressure from Noudidnt Blue Chip (Dowling) heading to the three-quarters of 1:26.3. Barrieau and Heart And Soul fought off that challenger then repelled a three-wide advance from Mystery Phil (Adam Merner) in the stretch drive. Jeb (Hughes) got up for third to complete the triactor ticket.
The top class victory capped off a three win day for Barrieau as he scored with his own trainee Perfect Mile earlier in the card in a lifetime best 1:57.4 then came back midway through the day to win with Dividend Day in 1:59.4 for Fred Paynter of Summerside.
