The Riverton Trotting Club's annual harness racing meeting will take place at Ascot Park Raceway in Invercargill on Sunday 4 November.
After racing on a Tuesday for a number of years the club is delighted to be given what they consider to be a premium date with the timing of the meeting ideal for trainers preparing horses for the New Zealand Cup carnival in Christchurch.
Over $75,000 in stakes is on offer, with the feature race the $15,000 Highview Standardbreds Justa Tiger Riverton Cup Handicap which will be run over 2700 metres. The last two winners of this race have been Matt Maguire for Cran Dalgety and Mr Chrome for Andrew Stuart.
The main trot of the day is the $7,000 Neville Cleaver Fishing Aparima Trot also over 2700 metres.
There are plenty of opportunities for maiden and C1 horses as well with great stakes for these grades.
A free bus will be provided for Riverton folk to get to Invercargill and return for their annual harness meeting if there is sufficient interest. Those wishing to take the bus can register at the Carrier Arms Hotel in Riverton or with Southern Harness Racings Promotions Officer, Lindsay Beer, phone 03 217 4288 or via email at email@example.com
Hospitality for members will be provided in the upstairs lounge where there will be discounted drinks plus tea, coffee and food supplied.
Free mini jeeps and a bouncy castle will be provided for the children
One lucky owner / trainer of a horse that did not finish in the top five placegetters will be drawn from each race to be shouted for in the Presidents Room as a gesture of appreciation for their participation.
Eleven races are programmed, with the first due to start at 12.08pm. Admission on the day is free.
