The 2007 edition of the Bal Cal Pick Four swings into action this Wednesday night at Balmoral Park. The popular wager will be offered every Wednesday night with a guaranteed pool of $25,000.00.
The Bal Cal begins with the final two races from Balmoral Park and concludes with the final two races from Cal Expo, which immediately follows.
In 2006 the Bal Cal proved immensely popular. The average pool totaled $30,206 last year, with a season high of $37,776 wagered on March 15. Last season the average one dollar payoff was $2,519 with 11 of the 26 Bal Cals paying over $1,400 for a dollar.
The Bal Cal this Wednesday consists of races 10 and 11 from Balmoral, followed by races 10 and 11 from Cal Expo. Approximate post time for the Bal Cal, which has a one dollar minimum bet, is 10:40 central time.
If you arrive at Balmoral Park early on Wednesday, check out the Pick Six at Santa Anita. A two day carryover of $723,774 is already in the pool. Based on a similar rollover earlier this year, it’s estimated the gross Pick Six pool to be over $3 million.
Maywood Park resumes racing on Thursday and Friday with a 7:20 starting time.
Big payoffs have spiced up the betting considerably at the half mile venue. Thus far this year the Pick Five payoffs have continued to be generous, averaging $2,585.20 for a dollar.
The Pick Three payouts also have been bountiful, with an average $2 payout of $1,204.60 and those Pick Three payouts are inflated because Maywood ‘s Pick Three has a 15% takeout, the lowest in Illinois.
