A fabulous day was had by all at Taycastell on Sunday last August the 5th. It was brilliant weather, a fantastic atmosphere and superb harness racing throughout the day.

Trysor Ffion just managed to hold off the challenge of Just Floyd and Gwyddil Halltheway in the first race of the day starting off a stream of wins for Ceredigion. In race 2 Neville Thomas’ Saunders Mach 3 ran away from the pack and won by 8 lengths from Blackfiled Bling and Wellfield Chloe.

Lakeside Ideal broke her novice tag in race 3. 2nd went to Midnight Lady and 3rd to Llan Boy 1. Huw Evans and Billy Elliott took out race 4, 2nd was Cam Shaft and 3rd Tuco. A cheer went out as peoples favourite Tudor Jones and Grannell Shane won the 5th, 2nd was Ja Ja Binks and 3rd Meet n Greet.

We moved on to the heats and Mike Evans had a difficult decision to make with three horses in heat 1. He opted for A Dollar a Day who managed 3rd but it was stable mate Ffairhos Hill Billy that stepped the gate smartly and won in the hands of Rhys Evans. Symlog Ace came home in 2nd.

In heat 2 Meadowbranch Josh set a fantastic time and won by 9 lengths. Camden Casanova had some trouble but came home in 2nd with Brywins Unicorn in 3rd.

Heat 3 went to Holmes Dreamer, 2nd was Adore Hanover and 3rd Vyrnwy Taffie. Heat 4 was a battle to the line with Alpine Heights coming out on top. 2nd was Talavary Activator and 3rd Rhyd n Write.

Heat 5 was a small but talented field. Last year’s final winner Brywins That’s Life just held off Mahogany Dream by a nose with What About Me in 3rd. The top heat gave Fool Around another victory to add to his long roster winning by 10 lengths. The battle was on for 2nd and it went to Another Toto a neck in front of Lyons Stallone.

Rhys Evans had a quick double, this time it was Baby Rosa in the winner’s enclosure in the Cardigan Bay member’s race. Previous winners earlier in the day Lakeside Ideal and Trysor Ffion made up the places.

Lakeside Dragon finally got his win after collecting numerous places all year in race 13. Limelight Frankie was 2nd and Wellfield Thumper 3rd.

Race 14 went to Hannah Montana , 2nd was Rhyds Tempo and 3rd Blackfiled Billie. Forest Gump won race 15, 2nd was Duggans Panache and 3rd Ynyston Seelster.

Annwen Evans had her first ever win on board Rush Around in race 16. She drove a brave race and led from start to finish.

In the penultimate race the C Class drivers Cam Shaft was a winner for Stuart Harris, 2nd was Chinatown Lucky and 3rd Ayr Vitro.

Now it was time for the main event. Given the time he set in the heat Medowbranch Josh was sent off the favourite. Ffiarhos HillBilly again left sharply this time in the hands of trainer Mike Evans. Meadowbranch Josh closed the gap getting into second.

The pace was on up front. Meadowbranch Josh made his move and the local crowed roared. Ffairhos HillBilly and Symlog Ace couldn’t give anymore.

Josh crossed the line with a four and a half-length victory, 2nd went to Ffairhos HillBilly and 3rd Symlog Ace giving Ceredigion connections a 1, 2, 3 in the final. Patrick Morris driver of Meadowbranch Josh “I was dubious at drawing 1 off the 10yd trail and feared he could get boxed in but the pace rolled on up front and gave me the space when I needed it, he’s a super horse and he proved it today.”
