North Canterbury harness racing enthusiast Ray Carlson has opted for a $100 each way bet for winning the New Zealand TAB and Harnesslink's latest fixed odds betting competition.

Carlson could have had a $200 win bet at Alexandra Park tomorrow night (Friday April 5) but instead he has opted for $100 each way on the Tony Herlihy (MNZM) trained Fascinator in race two.

Fascinator is going to be very hard to beat from the ace draw after finishing an unlucky third over the same 2200m mobile distance when favourite on debut on March 15 (see video below).

Herlihy's junior driver, Josh Dickie will take over the reins from his boss this week.

The $10,000 Rosslands Mobile for maiden fillies and mares will be run at 6.35pm.

New Zealand TAB bookie Steve Richardson termed Fascinator as a good thing.

He then offered Carlson $1.60 and $1.10 odds.

Carlson, who won $225 in our 2011 December competition is a steward for the Rangiora Harness Racing Club and a long-time harness racing fan.

He won the $200 bet in the $80,000 Group One New Zealand Trotting Championship at Addington Raceway last Saturday (March 30).

Readers were asked to pick the winning time for the 2600m mobile. Carlson entered 3:16.7.

The Tim Butt trained and Anthony Butt driven Vulcan won in 3:16.8.
