There were few surprises at Menangle yesterday with the well fancied runners taking out the majority of the Australasian Breeders’ Crown heats.

The big guns, Frith, Bling It On and Lettucerockthem all paid miniscule odds of $1.04, while a slightly more generous $1.40 was on offer for Majestic Amy.

Frith’s (Four Starzzz Shark) 12th straight win was nothing more than a cake walk, while Lettucerockthem’s (Art Major) seventh straight was almost as easy. However, probably the most impressive of the day was his McCarthy trained stablemate Bling It On (American Ideal), who will be saying just that to his two-year-old ABC rivals after making a dazzling back straight dash and blowing his opposition away with a 19.9 metre win. His last half was record in a blistering 54.3, which was by far the quickest of the day, as was his overall time of 2:48.7 (1:58.0).

The only slight upset of the day was Bebrave (Presidential Ball) ($3.90), who finished too strongly up the sprint lane for favourite Caesar Augustus, who received an easy run in the van but raced waywardly up the home straight.

Away from the ABC heats, former New Zealand pacer Christian Ruler was an emphatic 20.9 metre winner in the C5-7 win 1609 pace, posting a very good time of 1:52.6 after burning to the front from the outside of the gate.
