While there may be no need to break out a notepad or sharpen the pencils, students in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania are getting ready to start school - dealer school that is, and these students are on the road to full-time employment at Pocono Downs.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs officially began classes today to train students on the art of table games. This marks a historic event for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as it is the first table games school in the state's history.

"This is an exciting time for Pennsylvania and we are thrilled to be part of it," said Bobby Soper, President of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. "Hosting the first-ever table games school in the state is not only exciting to our existing employees currently enrolled, but for the nearly 225 other residents who look forward to a career at our casino."

Over 350 people are participating in this first class of dealer school including nearly 125 current Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs employees. The majority of these students are from the local area.

Courses currently in session include training for blackjack, roulette, craps and a few novelty games, with training for poker anticipated to begin in late March. Classes are held daily, Monday through Friday, with four different available time slots to accommodate the various schedules of participants.

Classes range from six to twelve weeks depending on the complexity and type of game. During the first few weeks, students will focus on becoming acclimated with the table, cards and chips before beginning to learn the skill set of the individual games. Training in this school will be offered free to all those accepted into the program. Students will be given the opportunity to become certified in multiple games and are encouraged to master at least two.
