Comeback hero For A Reason looks set for the upcoming Interdomion series after making a mockery of his rivals in today’s $30,000 Group 3 Goulburn Cup.
After being given time to settle, driver Luke McCarthy sent the seven-year-old son of Art Major on dazzling mid-race move to take up the lead when heading down the back straight for the first time.
He then let the handbrake up at the 350 metre mark allowing the Victorian Cup winner to race away for a comprehensive 17.3 metre win over Condagen, Suave Stuey Lombo, and Scandalman.
For A Reason raced over the 2,240m journey in 2:39:0, with an astonishing mile rate of 1:54.2.
For A Reason will miss Saturday’s $A400,000 Hunter Cup, but is likely to race again before tackling a heat of the Interdomions at Menangle on February 15.
Meanwhile, former kiwi Highview Conall made it three straight wins when narrowly taking out the $18,000 Goulburn Rose.
