ANDERSON, Ind.-July 14, 2017 – Indiana-sired freshmen pacing colts were the featured harness racing attraction at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Friday, July 14 as the evening's 14-race card was highlighted by the first of five $75,000 Indiana Sires Stakes finals for the two-year-old pacing colts and geldings. After winning his elimination last week, Shnitzledosomethin turned in another dominant performance to best nine other rivals, scoring in a new lifetime best of 1:52.2.
With driver Peter Wrenn in the bike, Shnitzledosomethin was eased off the gate to settle along the rail in fifth while a host of others left alertly. Ronnie Wrenn Jr. had Bluebird Recon fired up to leave aggressively and get the first call through the opening panel in a snappy :25.4. Jeopardy and LeWayne Miller benefitted from a pocket trip while GD Western Joe and Ricky Macomber Jr. were following intently in third.
Wrenn Jr. was able to get Bluebird Recon to relax on the lead but they quickly yielded command to Shnitzledosomethin just before the second station in :56.3. Shnitzledosomethin led the field through the three-quarter clocking in 1:25.2 but was joined on the outside by Tom's A Rockin and Sam Widger.
Tom's A Rockin was matching strides with the leader as the field turned for home but Shnitzledosomethin wasn't finished. Utilizing a :27 final quarter, Shnitzledosomethin coasted on to the wire four lengths in front of his competition. Tom's A Rockin held on gamely for second while Letitrock and Todd Warren staged a big rally late in the lane to get up for third. As the 3-5 favorite, Shnitzledosomethin returned $3.20 at the betting windows.
"He's an impressive colt," Wrenn noted in the winner's circle. "I knew there would be a lot of early speed so I planned to race off the back but all these colts are so green I had to move down the backside. He was very strong at the wire."
Trained by Dylan Davis, the son of Fred And Ginger-Summer N Sand has now won both of his lifetime outings. With the win, Shnitzledosomethin has bankrolled $47,500 in lifetime purse earnings for his connections of Bfj Stable, T. Lazzaro, E. Gold, and A. Basen.
