Talk about a photo finish! How about the four-horse finish in the $180,000 final of the Arthur J. Cutler Memorial Trot at the Meadowlands Saturday night! Only a long nose separated first from fourth place and the photo finish camera could not even separate the battle for second place with a dead heat!

Once the judges checked the photo finish print, Sevruga (SJ's Caviar-Stunnng Lindsey-Malabar Man) and driver Andy Miller emerged the winner in 1:51. Sevruga had cut the mile and just held on at the wire with a :28.4 last quarter mile. And at odds of 7-1 Sevruga made his backers at the betting windows very happy with a $16.60 win price.

Finishing in a dead heat for second was Wishing Stone (Yannick Gingras) with Guccio (Jimmy Takter) and Modern family (Tim Tetrick) ended up fourth in the photo. Race favorite Mister Herbie (Jody Jamieson) was never in the hunt and after being in fifth place at the top of the stretch, faded to ninth place at the finish.

It was a lifetime mark and tied the stakes record as Sevruga, a five-year-old gelding, posted his sixth win in ten starts this year for trainer Julie Miller. He is owned by the KDM Stakes of Farmingdale, NY. The victory, worth $90,000 to the winner, nearly doubled Sevruga's earnings this year to $190,100 and surpassed the half million mark in career earnings at $581,591 and was unraced as a two-year-old. He was bred by White Birch Farm of Allentown, NJ.

Sevruga's name comes from the sevruga sturgeon, which produces one of the highest priced varieties of caviar from the Caspian Sea.
