Lexington, KY — Having completed the fourth of five sessions, the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale is showing increases in average sale price compared to last year for both the specific session, 4.3 percent, and for the entire harness racing sale, 1.7 percent, to this point. A total of 551 yearlings have sold this year, averaging $50,042, compared to the 553 youngsters that sold for the average price of $49,206 in 2014.
The 142 yearlings selling on Thursday evening were by sires standing in only three jurisdictions, New York, Ontario, and Pennsylvania. Despite a recent dip in the buying power of the Canadian dollar in the U.S., Canadian buyers were noticeably active on Thursday. Canadian trainers signed for five of the eight most expensive yearlings in the session, including the leader, Tymal Reign, hammered down for $80,000. This is a daughter of Kadabra out of the $300,000-winning mare J M Aggie. Per Henriksen signed the slip for this filly consigned by Hunterton Sales Agency, acting as agent for Tymal Farms.
The session runner-up, She’s A Bronxbomber, has champion and million dollar parents. Sire Chapter Seven, whose first crop is being well-received, was Horse of the Year in 2012, while dam Housethatruthbuilt was a divisional champ in 2004. Arden Homestead Stable purchased the filly for $67,000 from the Cameo Hills Farm consignment.
The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale concludes with a final session starting at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Fasig-Tipton Sale Arena.
