The Jim Curtin trained Franco Emirate will fly the Kiwi flag in Saturday night's (December 10) $100,000 Cranbourne Pacing Cup which has drawn a quality harness racing field of top line pacers including Inter-Dominion Champion Im Themightyquinn.

The big son of Christian Cullen has settled in well at the Victorian property of Merv Williamson in preparation for the Group One event, and Curtin is hoping for a slightly improved performance from his last start 2nd at Menangle behind Washakie.

“He didn’t eat-up particularly well leading into the Sydney race but you don’t like to make too many excuses. The run of the winner was outstanding and he went good again in the Treuer, so hopefully our form is good off the back of that,”Curtin said.

In terms of experience Franco Emirate is still a relative newcomer to the open class ranks, the gelding’s 23 starts have netted the connections 14 wins and over $300,000 in stake earnings. “He’s still got a long way to go and these sorts of trips are all a good learning curb for him, you have to keep reminding yourself that he’s only had twenty odd starts. He seems happy enough and his work was really good yesterday, although I didn’t work him particularly hard,” Curtin stressed.

Franco Emirate has drawn nicely outside the pole horse Make Mine Cullen who could be a danger from that barrier, although the biggest threats will most likely to come from seasoned campaigners ImThemightyquinn and Mr Feelgood.
