Samantha Freeman celebrated her first winner as a harness racing trainer when she guided Miss Guenevere to victory in the Page Transport Pace at Carrick last Friday.
It was the mare's eighth start for Freeman since she acquired the well-bred six-year-old in April from the Rattray family who had prepared her for two wins and 13 minor placings from 33 outings.
Freeman sent Miss Guenevere (Major In Art-Guenevereslancelot) to the front after traveling 500 metres and she travelled well with Lord Stark (Rohan Hillier) at her wheel and he kept her company to well into the home straight the last time.
But when Freeman asked the mare for the big effort 200 metres out she sped clear and went on to score comfortably from Lord Stark and Entreemaindessert that came from last.
"I was rapt with the win but on her trackwork at home I am surprised she hasn't won before this," Freeman said.
"It's great to finally get a winner as a trainer because I've had my licence for a year and I had my first runner at this Carrick meeting last year.
"I am hoping this isn't the mare's last win for me because she has a bit of ability but maybe she goes best in front so that might be the plan in the future."
Freeman only has Miss Guenevere in work but expects to have up to four in training by the New Year.
