Future Character (Shady Character) pulled off the upset in the first of two divisions of the Joe Gerrity Jr Memorial Open Pacing Series on Saturday at Saratoga Casino and Raceway.

The Rick Dane Jr trained and driven eight year old followed up his second place finish in the first leg with a last to first victory in the series' second installment. The fractions in the race were like we have never seen at the Spa with an opening quarter in 26 seconds, a half in :54 and three quarters of 1:22 before Future Character won the photo in 1:51.2.

Though the final time was two fifths of a second shy of the all-time track record, it was the second fastest time of the year at the Spa.

Future Character punched his ticket into next week's $130,000 Final with the victory which saw him dismissed at odds of 22-1.

The other division was won by Classic Rock Nroll. Dan Noble was in town to drive the Tony Osullivan trained standout pacer and went right down the road with him.

Like Future Character, Classic Rock Nroll (Rocknroll Hanover) was a leg one runner up but would not be denied in leg two, stopping the timer in 1:51.4 to record his fourth win of the season.

There will be a t-shirt giveaway in conjunction with the Gerrity Final next Saturday night, August 18th.

Live racing resumes at Saratoga on Tuesday night with first post time set for 7:20pm.
