All Turain scores in 2014 Red Shores debut

Brodie MacPhee won feature with All Turain
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE - All Turain made his 2014 debut a winning one Saturday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at The Charlottetown Driving Park.

Brodie MacPhee was in the bike in the $2,200 race 11 feature for the 1:57 victory for co-owner and trainer Trevor Hicken of Montague and co-owner Lee Hicken of Charlottetown. The five-year-old son of Tell All was sent off the gate, clearing to the lead at the 28 second first quarter before laying down a 57.1 half and three-quarters in 1:27. All Turain cruised home in 30 seconds to secure the victory over a hard closing Perfect Escape (Ron Matheson) and third-place Touch Of Lightning (Earl Smith).

Camcun captured the $1,800 back-up pace in 1:58.4 with trainer-driver and co-owner Kenny Arsenault in the bike for co-owner Dan Belliveau of Halifax. Second went to PC Shockwave (Brian MacPhee) with J Rs Hurricane (Corey MacPherson) finishing third.

Howmacs Pride won the race 3 trot class in 2:02.4 for a purse of $1,400 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Wade Peconi of Breadalbane and Howmac Farms of North Wiltshire.

Jason Hughes had a profitable night at the track, scoring a hat-trick from his own stable. Hughes started off with a six-length 1:59.2 victory aboard Say It Again Sam, who ships in from Ontario for owner Foxyhall Racing of Wallace, N.S. Jeramaya was a 1:59.4 winner for Hughes and owner Robi Hughes of Stratford, while Hughes and owner Foxyhall Racing teamed up again for a 1:58.3 victory with Narragansett in the evening finale.

Total bet for the 13-dash card was $27,839. Live racing returns to Charlottetown Thursday evening at 7 pm, followed by a card Saturday at 6 pm.

Caliban Hanover takes Summerside top trot

SUMMERSIDE, PE – Caliban Hanover knocked off the top trotters in Atlantic Canada Sunday at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

In line to Corey MacPherson, Caliban Hanover sat in the pocket as Abundaspin (Harold Shepherd) carved out fractions of 30.2, 101.1 and 1:31.3. MacPherson then powered forward to win a nose decision in 2:01.4. Abundaspin was second with Lyrical Lindy (Gilles Barrieau) third. Caliban Hanover is owned by Wendell MacDonald of Cornwall and trained by Ron Gass.

Onehotvett captured the feature pace in 1:59.3 for owner-trainer-driver Wade Sorrie of Montague. Leaving from post 3 in the race 11 $1,800 pace, Onehotvett had a two-hole ride through the first two fractions of 29.3 and 59.4 with Bet The House (Walter Cheverie) laying out the fractions. Sorrie vacated the rail at the 1:29.2 three-quarters when Lucky Encounter (Alex Sobey) took over the lead. Onehotvett got up for a length decision over Lucky Encounter while Toad River (Ken Murphy) was third.

MacPherson had a driving triple on the card, winning with Classic Lorenzo in 2:00.4 for owner Devon Wallace of Alberton and Dusty Lane Dora in 2:01.3 for owner Ron Gass of Cornwall.

Driver Terry Gallant and trainer Thane Mann both scored driving doubles. Total wager for the 12-dash card was $14,281.
