Summerside, PE - Carrera Angel, under the command of owner-driver Rocky Schurman converted a pocket ride into a winning score when they claimed the Labor Day pace in a dazzling 1:57.2 Monday at Red Shores Summerside.

Leaving from post 5, Schurman placed the nine-year-old gelding behind Capitalism (Jason Hughes) and stalked the leader through splits of 28.3, 59.1, 1:27.4 before over-powering the favorite in the stretch for the victory. Keystone Nobility (Corey MacPherson) was third. The 5-4-2 triactor paid $396.80.

Jason Hughes had a big day at the office with four winners on the 13 dash program. The Stratford native opened the afternoon with three-year-old filly Woodmere Trulyblue from the Blaine Mckenna stable and then paraded Brianna Angel and Casimir Lucuano to victory lane. Hughes completed the grand-slam with Beckenbauer in 1:58.2.

Song Dream captured the trot feature defeating Scarlet Patti by a neck in 2:04. Brian MacPhee did the driving for owner Mark Ramsey, Greenwood, N.S. and trainer Vaughn Doyle, Charlottetown.

The fastest mile of the day went to Just a Professor in line to Ken Murphy in 1:56.4. Murphy, who had a driving double, was booked to drive by owners Creston Gillis, Bell River and Michael and John Clarey of Montague.
