CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – A pocket trip ended up with a winner's circle visit for Ramblinglily in the Fillies and Mares Open pace Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Gary Chappell worked out the winning trip in the finale of the 10-dash card in the $2,350 event. Race favourite Prettyndangerous and driver Adam Merner laid down the early fractions of 28.1 and 58.3 while fighting off the first over Collective Wisdom (Driven by Gilles Barrieau).
Ramblinglily and Chappell sat in the two-hole and watched the action that continued to the three-quarters in 1:27.4 before surging past in the stretch drive to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths in 1:56.3. Second went to West River Ambyr (Steven Shepherd) while longshot Julep Hanover (Wade Myers) completed the triactor ticket. Ramblinglily is co-owned and trained by Allan Jones of Riverview, N.B., and co-owned by Normand Leger of Shediac, N.B.
The top conditioned pace on the card was won by Keep Coming and driver Corey MacPherson, stopping the clock in 1:56.3 for a $2,000 purse. The five-year-old son of Mystery Chase is co-owned and trained by Brian Andrew of Milton for co-owner William Andrew of Calgary, Alta.
Freddie scored a mild upset in the $1,800 Open trot, winning by three open lengths in a snappy 1:58.1 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. The six-year-old son of Majestic Son was victorious over race favourite Osprey Impact (Walter Cheverie) with third going to Holy Molie Maggie (Corey MacPherson).
