JK Special upsets field in mares open pace

Charlottetown, PE - JK Special, with Walter Cheverie in the bike, won the fillies and mares open Thursday in 1:58.1 at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Cheverie put the Joe Smallwood trainee on the point and rated the mare through fractions of 29.3, 59.4 and 1:29.3 to score the upset victory over General Luckypercy and Cool One. JK Special paid $44.00 to win. It was Cheverie's second winner of the night.

The card was also highlighted with two trot divisions. BJ Carmalyta won the first event for Kenny Arsenault and owner Bert Honkoop of Montague while Lyrical Lindy took the second class for driver Jason Hughes, owner William Andrew, Calgary, Alberta and trainer Blaine Mckenna.

PC Shockwave recorded the fastest mile of the night in 1:56.4. Brian MacPhee did the driving for owner Scott MacPhail of Montague.

Racing returns Saturday in Charlottetown at 6pm. Red Shores Summerside will go Sunday. Post time is 1pm.
