CHARLOTTETOWN, PE - The toughest pacing mares East of Toronto will battle for top honours Thursday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
First race post time is 7 pm for the 12-dash program.
The race 11 Fillies and Mares Open has Bunny Mach and General Luckpercy fresh off victories in the Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares series Saturday in Summerside with a U.S. invader added into the mix. Bunny Mach is riding a two-race win streak from post 7 for trainer-driverand owners Donald and Steven MacRae of Vernon Bridge. She will face off with Andro Madi (Dale Spence) with post 3 and General Luckypercy (Brian MacPhee) with post 4.
For All We Know is a newcomer to Charlottetown with post 1 for driver, trainer and owner Bruce Wood of Marshfield. The seven-year-old mare boasts $154,703 in lifetime earnings and a mark of 1:53.1 at The Meadows in Pennsylvania and was racing a $12,500 claimer at Yonkers Raceway in New York. Also in the field of mares is JK Special ( ), Stayoutofmyaffair ( ), Brodys Leona ( ) and Veronicavermillion ( ).
A compact field of six Open trotters will compete in race 4 for a $1,850 purse. Four of the entrants have been winners in this class in the past few weeks, and classifier Gerard Smith has selected Zip The Lip as the morning line favorite from post 2. Brian MacPhee will drive thetrotter for co-owner and trainer Donald Sweet and co-owner Orville Willis, both of O'Leary. He will get all he can handle from his competition, which includes Pleasure Girls (Cheverie), Caliban Hanover ( ), Lyrical Lindy ( ), Saulsbrook Balance ( ) and Abundaspin ( ).
The back-up pace has a very tough field of six competing for a $2,000 purse. Carnivore () is favored, fresh off a 1:55.1 victory Saturday night in Summerside, while his main challenges will come from Judge Jon ( ) and Perfect Escape ( ).
