Two state double for McMillian
Ryan McMillian had a big night, Friday night with his square gaiters former Victorian mare La Chabanais, who he trains, won her third race in row when came off 20 meters to win easily by 7.5 meters McMillian also part owner of former South Australian trotting mare Brylin Crescent now in the Victorian stables of David Aiken, which took out the Aldebaren Park Trot on Friday night at Melton, the mare has now won five races since join Aiken’s team in February this year.
Port Adelaide’s assistant coach Jason Cribbs is also in the ownership of Brylin Crescent who was bred in New Zealand by Brylin Boyz who incidentally has relocated to Burwood Stud in Queensland this season after siring over 100 winners who have amassed more than $1.5million.
Ray Holberton elected to SAHRC Board.
Botra President Ray Holberton has been elected to the board of South Australian Harness Racing Club Holberton polled the largest number of votes of all the candidates unfortunately President Lyn Tester lost her seat on the board, so the club will have to appoint a new President to take the reins. Holberton believes he can hold both positions his work with BOTRA has been outstanding and his position on the board can only benefit the grass roots users of Globe Derby.
Aaron Brown kicks starts his season.
Last season’s leading trainer Aaron Brown has had a relatively slow start to the season by his standards before this weekend only had four of his chargers grace the winners circle, that changed Monday when he trained the last two winners at Betezy Park Globe Derby Joeys Legacy who was having his third run back from a let up proved too good running away to win by 10 meters and then high priced New Zealand import Shacklock finally broke his maiden duck in Australia, after starting odds on favourite at his first three Australian starts Ken Rogers moved the Peruvian Hanover 5 year old off the marker pegs at the 400 meters and he gave nothing else a chance sprinting home 29.3 seconds.
Shacklock won a 3 year old race on the grass at Banks Peninsula in New Zealand before being sold to clients of the Brown stables.
Battlers Night version II
Botra have been given a date for their second Battlers Night it will be conducted at Betezy Park Globe Derby on Valentine’s Day February 14th next year following on from the huge susses of this year’s event held in August, HRSA and Botra have worked together to make this event a biannual event. With increased stake money, trophies and involvement of owners in presentation area to non-winners this venture is sure to become a feature meeting on the calendar.
