The annual George Deane Memorial raceday fell foul to the weather this weekend at Dunmanway, but it is hoped that a new date will be penciled in for this event later in the season.
Racing did go ahead at Portmarnock in North County Dublin despite the terrible wintery conditions.
Looking ahead to next Sunday 26th June the Drimoleague Harness Racing Club (DHRC) hold their annual fixture on the lands of Jerry and Sheena O Driscoll approx. two miles on the western side of Drimoleague village.
This track is a tough undulating course with no hiding place for the faint hearted.
The DHRC are one of the most progressive clubs on the West Cork circuit and always give racegoers a good day out with plenty of entertainment both on and off the track.
The club being from a fairly rural area has great links with the local community and every year nominate a local charity to benefit from the raceday.
This year a donation will be made to the Ricky Barrett Fund which has been set up to defray the medical costs of a local boy who has serious medical conditions.
" We are a community based club and are delighted to be able to help the Barrett family and Ricky who has been ill and hopefully our donation will help in a small way to his recovery" said Denis O Reilly of DHRC .
"All the kids will have plenty to keep themselves occupied while the adults can enjoy the racing" added O Reilly .
With Dunmanway cancelled on Sunday a bumper entry is expected at this popular venue .
Racing has a 2.30 start time and details of entries can be found on www.harnessracingcork.com
