Nevele R weanlings to go under the hammer

This fine looking colt is from the first crop of Changeover

For the first time in the Stud’s history, Nevele R is selling its entire 2013 foal crop through the PGG Wrightson Christchurch Weanling & All Age Sale on May 15.

Nevele R and its sister company Spreydon Lodge will be offering almost 30 well handled weanlings,  21 broodmares with well-grown foals at foot and a handful of untried yearlings between them.

A wide range of Nevele R's stallions are represented with the proven sire Badlands Hanover being well-represented with 8 weanlings,  leading percentage sires McArdle and Lis Mara with 3 and 4 respectively, five-time Group 1 winner Tintin In  America with 2, and champion pacer and promising first season sire Changeover and trotting sire Continentalman with one each.

However the stallion with the most weanlings on offer is the beautifully credentialled son of Western Ideal,  Vintage Master 1:48.2f $2,160,953, with 10 youngsters (5 colts/5 fillies) catalogued.

An outstanding racehorse, Vintage Master won over $1.3 million as a 3YO, set multiple world records as a 4yo and recorded sub 1:50 wins for four consecutive seasons. As well as his terrific racetrack stats, Vintage Master also boasts a superb maternal pedigree with his second dam a full sister to the great Silk Stockings.

His sire Western Ideal has done a terrific job to date in NZ with his first crop of just 9 foals producing the Group 1 placed and multiple Invercargill track record holder Raksdeal 1:54.9 ($79,255 5 wins), Ideal Power 1:56.4 ($57,695 4 wins including two Nevele R Fillies Series heats), Jango Fett 1:55.8 ($29,107 5 wins) and Gentle Western 1:55 ($17,000 3 wins). Other sire sons of Western Ideal include the likes of Rocknroll Hanover and American Ideal who have both been very successful to date in NZ.

Highlights of the Nevele R weanling draft include a stunning McArdle colt out of the Group 1 winning mare Lady Toddy (Lot 64), a strong looking Changeover colt out of a winning daughter of Broodmare Excellence Award winner Port Medley (Lot 66), colts from the immediate family of Excel Stride (Lot 52) and Ohoka Punter (Lot 53), a striking Vintage Master colt out of a half sister to NZ Free For All winner Waipawa Lad (Lot 62), as well as close relatives to the Group 1 winners Badlands Jewel and Bold Cruiser and NZ's fastest ever time triallist Christy Breanna 1:51.7 (Lots 61 & 65).

There are some quality lots amongst  the broodmares on offer as well with a half sister to the Group 1 winners This Time Franco and There's A Franco (Lot 9), a Western Hanover mare from the family of Holmes Hanover (Lot 25) and a half sister to the former Group 1 GN Oaks winner OK Rock (Lot 37) entered. All the mares on offer have foals at foot with the foals by the likes of Changeover (4), Badlands Hanover (7), McArdle (4), Vintage Master (2), Live Or Die (1), Lis Mara (1), Tintin In America (1) and CR Commando (1).
