From the shadows of age-group monte stars Upper Cut du Rib, Utoky, Uncaring and Up Market, Love You stallion Ulysse has emerged as the brightest U-generation representative

He did not start racing in group races until May of his 5YO year with a win in the Prix Jean Gauvreau (Gr2). Mike Lenders trained stallion pulled off two more group two wins before winning the jewel in the 5YO crown, the Prix de Normandie in October.

After another age-group win in the Prix Joseph Lafosse he went on to win the open age group two Prix du Calvados before the son of Love You was seventh in the Prix de Cornullier in his first start at the world championship of saddle racing.

His last start was in the crazy group one Prix de Centaures, where he was one of 12 out of the 15 to be disqualified for making a break.

Another victim on that day was Vision Intense, who it must be said, has a little history with making a gallop at the most inopportune time but when she doesn't make a mistake she is always in the money, and under saddle it is usually first place pickings

Jean Philippe Dubois' wonderful daughter of Prodigious had actually won the same race the previous year and has also won the Prix De Vincennes (Gr1), Prix Leon Tacquet (G2) , Prix De Pardieu (G2), Prix Lavater (G2), Prix Philippe Du Rozier (Gr2), Prix Camille Blaisot (Gr2).

Next start the Philippe Moulin trained mare bounced back with an easy win the Prix Paul Bastard (Gr2) to add to that list over the somewhat fortuitous winner of the Prix de Centaures, Valdice de Mars.

All three are in this race, but this really boils down to a match race between Ulysse and Vision Intense, if, of course they do not gallop.

An interesting runner is Ukerlza du Benjo, who is making her first start at group level for owner-trainer Philippe Rouer at the age of six. She is a daughter of the unheralded Blizzard Pouterie, a minor winner and the sire of just four six figure earners since his first small crops appeared in 1995. This mare, his only registered 2008 foal, is already his second best performer.
