Charlottetown, PE – Big Surf, with harness racing driver Marc Campbell in the bike, stopped the timer in an incredible 1:53.2 performance to win the Saturday night top class at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The son of Somebeachsomewhere, owned by Burkie By the Bay stables, Ten Mile House and Perry Burke, Grosse Ile, Quebec, made it look easy on the windy night after Campbell moved the pacer on route to the half (56 seconds) after the opening quarter was posted in 27.2 by co-favorite and stable-mate All Turain (Corey MacPherson). Big Surf flew past the three-quarter station in 1:25.1 before sprinting home in 28.1 seconds to notch his first victory of the 2015 campaign over All Turain. Both horses are trained by Trevor Hicken who enjoyed the one-two finish. American Terror was third.
Frill Seeker, with Kenny Arsenault driving for Ebbsfleet Stables, Stratford, Ontario, took the open trot over Pleasure Girls and Presto Pegasus. Arsenault also won with Leading Camdidate for owner Jeff Holmes of Orwell, PE.
Driver Mark McKinnon enjoyed a driving double with scores aboard Unstoppable Speed for the ownership group of David and Mitch Tierney along with Sterling and Kelsie Buchanan and Come Back for Tim McKinnon, Charlottetown.
Team Matheson made two trips to victory lane when Seawind Hudson, a three-old colt by Sportswriter owned by Patrick Morris, Charlottetown, recorded his first lifetime win while Hornswoggle captured the seventh race contest for father Ron, son Jackie and owner daughter Jodi Lynn.
