He paid $8.40 to win while the 4-1-6 triactor ticket returned $109.90.
The victory capped off a driving triple for Hughes who moves back to the lead in the Charlottetown driving standings with 75 wins after opening the program tied with Marc Campbell who was on assignment at Northside Downs in Nova Scotia.
General Luckypercy ended Ramblinglily's winning streak with a score in the mares open in race 10 for driver Ron Matheson.
The nine-year-old mare won by a length in 1:57.1. The victory was a family affair with daughter Jodi Lynn as the winning owner while son Jackie handles the training duties on the pacer.
Ramblinglily was second with another Matheson stable star For All We Know finishing third.
Caliban Hanover put in an impressive performance to win the open trot for catch-driver Walter Cheverie, owner Wendell MacDonald and trainer Ron Gass.
Cheverie decided to vacate the two-hole on route to the opening quarter and rated the trotter to his fourth win of the year.
Thunderaway (Hughes) was second while the classy Neal (Brian Andrew) closed for third.
Cheverie also turned a hat-trick on the night with trips to the winner's circle aboard Mustang Sena for trainer Clair Sweet and Brodys Leona trained by Corey MacPherson for the ownership group of Emily Taylor, Kerry Taylor and Lisa Richards.
Brian MacPhee, who is teaming up with Ocean 100 in the Drive for Charity promotion, had a driving double on the program.
